Outdoorsmen in Nova Scotia will get another shot at a moose-hunting
licence this year. The province will introduce a third moose hunt
in mid December. Usually there are only two moose-hunting seasons.
A government official says complaints about animals in the Cape
Breton Highlands prompted this hunt.
Thousands of Nova Scotia hunters are expected to vie for 335 moose-hunting
licences when the lottery-style application process begins Thursday.
Applications will be accepted until May 31.
The winners will be chosen during a public lottery draw June 25,
in Strathlorne, Cape Breton.
All moose hunting takes place within four zones in Inverness and
Victoria counties, the only counties in the province where it
is permitted.
The first season will be held from Sept. 27 through Oct. 2. The
second season is from Oct. 4 through Oct.9. The third season will
be held in mid-December.
