Watching Phoenix's vids of deer inspired me to post this. This was Moose I got in NFLD, although a couple years ago, I am waiting another long 7 weeks to hunt Moose in NFLD again this year. WAITING WAITING

Nice shot. I always go for the neck shot as well. Which part of NL was this? I used to do some guiding up on the Northern Pen, but this looks like Central to me.

That certainly got er done!! I hope they had a buggy to get it out.....looks like it would have been a tough carry otherwise.

Listen brother...if one of your crew backs out on ya for this year and ya need somebody on short notice...ya know my number...

Good luck this year and remember your 'note to self' :)

Although this is not the Outfitter I am going to this year, (I want the whole Moose coming out rather then just being boned) this was at Sandy Pond. They had an ATV here, long long drive in from where it came from. The Guides brought the meat back to the lake on an ATV and then back to the camp on Boat and then back to Peter Strides by float plane. Ian was the creator of the Vid, he was behind me, I had no idea at that time that anything was even being recorded. Charlie was my Guide, really liked him.

Butch, if I hear of anyone backing out I will call you.

Neck shots are not my preference, but I was leaning against a tree and it was about 100 yards +- Next time, behind the shoulder.

Man that country is spectacular - good shot, Lee. Best of luck with your hunt this year.

Curious - whats the reason for wanting the whole moose?
Thanks Gary, I guess it is all about the meat for me. When there, my total meat outtake was less then 200 lbs, Unfortunately, with the meat coming out in a float plane they are limited with weight. That particular Moose was estimated at about the same as the one I got in CB a few years earlier. That one yielded about 450 lbs. Although I realize some of this is bone, I really want the most bang for by buck. Just trying a different approach this time, I will see how it unfolds, if happy I will be back the following year, if not, well, I will be shopping around again. Life is short, and getting shorter, so I want the most that I can possibly get out of the hunts that I have remaining. For me personally, it is about the meat as much as the experience.

Thanks Again.

Yeah, I hear ya - same for me. Don't matter what I hunt the enjoyment, the journey, the country, people and the meat are the important factors. Not wanting to sound critical and I certainly don't know the circumstances of your hunt but 200 lb sounds quite a bit shy. I've been in on 2 fly in moose hunts from the Rock and the deboned meat weighed a lot more than 200. Might just be the way some people do the quartering job, I guess.

There's times I wish Nfld guide rules were like Quebec's - 1 guide per 4 hunters. Gives a guy some freedom and if you don't mind the work - a chance to do your dressing/quartering of the animal.

Looking forward to your story/pics from your Nfld hunt this year.

im not a fan of boning out meat either. Ive done it when far from lake/floatplane....but i always felt like i was leaving tooo much behind.....but i think we got more than 200 lbs out...never weighed it...but pretty sure.

besides that....i dont know why...i just prefer the bone in.

Mike, This will be my second trip, this fall, Moose Hunting, been over a bunch of times fishing and ATVing the TC Trail. I really understand why those that go continue to go. I believe, everything lining up, that I will do this annually while the aging body still allows it, as well as my wife and the bank account allowing it. Ian did a great job recording that. There is a longer version, I was leaned against that tree for around ten minutes (so it seemed) waiting for the Bull to turn sideways. There were three Moose there, the two you see and a smaller spike over to the right. Time was not on our side, we were way back in a bog and long ways from the boat with daylight disappearing. I almost shot it in the head, which is not something I would normally consider. Hope this year is as successful .
