do they come completely finished and lacquered? And fits well right away? I have been on their site now and then (and right now actually) thinking about getting a stock from them for my Remington 700, which needs some new life.
sounds good, I like the look of some that they have, a lot of really nice laminate colors, Biggest problem is I'd then want to get the rifle re-blued if I get a new stock. Could probly just buy a new gun instead! Sure does make the Stevens look A LOT nicer though! Better to shoot I bet as well, as I heard the original fiberglass stocks were rather flimsy defeating the "floating barrel" concept.
Tree Farmer if you call Savage Arms Canada at 705-652-8000 you can order the new action screws to fit the wood stock.if I recall I paid about 10 bucks shipped to the door for mine.thats a nice looking stock is it a boyds classic.
When I called I asked for the service dept .I asked the guy that answered if I could order the longer action screws for a Stevens 200 to convert to a wood stock .gave him my address and visa # and they showed up about a week later.
My Boyds FT thumbhole cost me a $ 120.00 and change shipped the door.you can only order a $100.00 worth of stuff at a time from the states as that is the maximum that the use goverment will allow to cross the border.this is the value of the item the shipping does not count against the $100.00 limit.
Sweeet!!
I was out with Hunterfirst and his new Stevens 22-250 yesterday and man what a diff in his stock compared to the one was originally on yours.
Felt rock solid and hefty probably about how that one feels now.
Well...my stock arrived last week from Boyds. I wanted to do a re-build of my 243 for Rose. This is gonna be her deer rifle as well as my plinker, yote stopper and paper killer! She picked the color(couldn't get the purple/black laminate....so she opted for the Sky Blue Laminate. What a looker it is!!
Even tho this stock is sold as "finished"...my Stevens is the 3rd generation so I had to do a few alterations. Remove some of the inletting wood ahead of the recoil lug...this lets the lug come back further into the stock...lines up the stock holes with the receiver holes a little better. Some of the wood had to be removed in certain spots...I used a dremel with a small wood remover ball....this creats small ruts in the wood throught the bedding area and gives the acraglass more surface area to bond to.
These Stevens 200 guns with the blind magazine have to have the mag well shortened up via a small block of hard wood that had to be finnicky fit into place!
Once I was finished with the inletting and wood removal...I filled all the screw holes in the receiver with modeling clay..I also filled the front 1/2 of my bolt raceways and plugged off the chamber partway. Then I mixed my glass and put it in place.....With 2 coats of dried release agent on my barrel nut, receiver and recoil lug, I wrapped 10-13 wraps of el. tape around the front of the barrel, right where it sets on the front of the stock...this helps hold up the front and keep it level in the bedding.
I then set the action and barrel back into the stock. It was squeezed down into place with three spots of electrical tape wound around the barrel and stock to hold in place and prevent movement. I waited 1/2 hour and used a few Q-tips and vinegar to clean off any extra ooze coming out around the receiver and stock. After 10 hours, I removed the stock from the barrel with a few little raps on the bottom of my hand.
Now the bedding is set up..but yet still pliable enough to remove any extra materials. once the excess was cleaned up...it goes back into the stock to set for another 14-24 hours to allow complete hardening of the glass. I can't fire the gun for 2-3 days....completing the cure time.....LOOKS AWESOME...I gotta say! Verry pleased with the bedding job! This gun could cloverleaf before with that flimsy stock on it....she should be reaaalll good now!! Can't wait for the range now!!... All tolled, I got about 14 - 15 hours in on it so far, not counting the cure times. One last job is to change the LOP for Rose...I need to shorten the stock by about 3/4 of an inch to fit her just right. That'll require another couple of hours between scribing, sanding re-finishing and grinding the pad again!....I took some pics at different stages...Now if only I can get em up here for all to see.
AAAAANNND apparently EFFEN NOT!!
OH Yea...I ordered a new blued metal trigger guard so's I can put the plastic one back on the old stock.
How da FFFFFF************** did you do that...I was into them tutorials last nite.ANNNND this mornin..thought I had it mastered...parently I am STILL....MASTER of MY OWN DOMAIN!!!
Man o Man that looks sharp! I just might order a blue one too now! I got a pepper one comin like Rembolts but the blue is nice too! I hope mine turns out half as nice as your guys!
