If it rains for a couple hours steady there is a little drip in my roof. I went up on the roof and tried to find where the leak is getting through at but I wasnt able to have any success. Anyone have any tips for finding where water is getting in?
Start at your ridge caps and slowly work your way down each side of the roof .You'll eventually see some little holes or tears in the shingles.I just put a whole new roof on my house myself 2 summers ago ,after trying to patch it for years .If your shingles are cracked or brittle at all ,my best advice is replace them ,you might be able to get a deal on some factory seconds where it is a camp.Sometimes water will run quite a ways under the leaky shingle before it makes its way into your place.Water runs pretty much downhill ,so when you go up on the roof, start looking ruffly up above where the water is coming in ,look for little holes in the shingles and also any exposed nail heads will cause leaking.Hope you find your leak !
In my very limited experience it has always been easier to find a leak from the inside...even if it means taking down a ceiling. Leaks travel and from the inside you can almost always find where it begins. Unless you plan to simply redo the whole roof....I would begin from inside...water can and does do a lot of damage if left unchecked. Good luck with your search.

As with Butch's suggestion, I've always had an easier time finding the leak from the inside. Unfortunately that does't mean that you've found the place on the outside of the roof where the water is getting in. However it gives you a starting point and you can then get on the outside of your roof and work up from that point towards the top to find where the leaky shingles are. Good luck and hopefully you solve the problem quickly.
Also check your roof for anything laying on it like piled up leaves, or growing moss. I had a leak in my camp roof caused by moss letting the water soak and pool up during heavy rain. Getting the leaves and moss off let the water flow off instead of being held there.
Yea I was up on the roof and patched a few shingles that looked a little bit dodgy but water about 3 hours of rain it started dripping a little at its usual spot on the inside (it drips in the loft). I have a bowl under it for the meantime as its just a small drip now I will keep looking. When I was up there I found some moss and leaves on the other side and im going to clear that all off next time im out there. I will just keep looking until I hopefully find it. My main concern is the water damaging some of the roof boards or even the beams.
