Incredible hunt last evening on a friends dairy farm fields.  Saw 14 deer but nothing close enough to even try in that weather.  Had 2 in the crosshairs at 200 yds but decided the shot was too sketchy for a clean kill with a Muzzy. Gotta say that torrential rain and wind really gave the deer the edge.  I could barely see through the scope.  Next week with my 30.06 there may be a different story to tell.  Really an incredible evening of hunting.

14 deer...wow.  I think a lot of folks go a whole season or more without seeing any.  I probably wouldn't have shot with the ML either.  Good luck with the rifle next week.

Last year I had a doe in Zone 7 at 65 yds.  I texted my son and he said to leave her as he was trying for a big buck in the area.  I had the .308 scope all over her but let her go.  We had one deer in the freezer so it was not a have no meat decision.  She stomped the ground for about 2 minutes and ran off after she saw me.  I also thought she may have a young one with her.  Saturday PM hunt was one I will remember forever.

Saw another 12 deer tonight.  9 in fields and 3 on the way home.   Closest of the 9 was 150 yds.  Like to say I didn't shoot but missed it.  I am going to sight the gun in for 150 yds tomorrow.  I have not checked the gun past 100 yds so do not know what the 240 grain xtp is doing.  Thinking bullet was low.  Aim was middle body just behind front shoulder.   I am using 100 grain volume of 777 FFG.  Ballistic chart says 3" high at 100 yds is 150 zero. Switched the scope from the 4x32 to a 3-9 x40 tonight also.  Deer are winning this game so far.

I wouldn't try my muzzleloader past 100 yds, I just can't get the groups tight enough to be comfortable with it. Although I know people who say there guns group great at that range.

You are 100% correct dbg.  Sighted in the new scope and groups were imaginary...6",  Should have just left the 4x32 on it. I will have to try Powerbelts and see if they are any better.  Hunting from a blind tonight and had 4 deer come out but closest was 160 yds. Watched them for 30 mins.   No shots.  Driving out had a huge doe 10 yds beside the truck but it was too late, Another incredible night

Tagged out the Muzzy tonight with a spike.  Watched 4 deer last 15 min of shooting time from the ground blind then had to stop and let 7 cross in front of the truck driving out.  Now it is rifle time.  Christening time for the new Winchester XPR 30-06.
