The rules say that you can't run a dog between April 1 and July 1
Further to that after July 1 you need to get a training permit from DNR, however, depending on which office you visit they may or may not issue one for the running of hounds. I've been told that the dog training permit is for bird dogs not hounds, it's illegal to have a dog chase and persue wildlife.

I believe that the Atlantic Beagle Club has a training property in Kennetcook where you can legally run your beagle out of season. You might want to check them out.

The full regulations and permits required are found in the NS Wildlife Act and regulations which is also responsible for field trials, hunt tests and related activities. The act and it's regulations can be accessed through the DNR website.
