One of the guys in our camp got a pair of muffs (sorry, I don't know the details on them - just basic cheap ones from Amazon I believe) and we all tried them. I was really impressed with how well they amplified the sounds around as well as worked for shooting (we all rattled off a couple of shots using them).
I'll likely try one of the less expensive options (with good reviews!) this year. :-)

I picked up a pair of Howard Leight's , i think they are called .They amplify anything under 85dec and block anything over .They are great at the range and i planned on trying in the deer stand .I forgot them my first muzzleloader hunt and i ended up getting my buck the first trip ,so i guess i'll try them next season .
Wish i had half the skill with a rifle my dad had(rest in peace Dad).
