LOL...mayyyybeee.....lmao.....when ever I see snow shoes, I often think of a story I read a looooong time ago, The Mad Trapper of the Rat River...Albert Johnston. He did that very thing and sent the RCMP in the wrong direction for a day or two.

Quite the story if you've never read it !  I befriended a guy in Hawbolt SK...who was kin of one of the RC's that chased him. He was telling me about it so I had to get the book. One of many stories I read  that seems to always stay with me.

In the summer of 92 I drove from Ignace ,On. to Anchorage, Alaska to visit relatives. I think it was in Watson Lake, that I bought a copy of The Mad Trapper of Rat River, I started reading the novel at bed time by the dim light of the truck camper. We decided to take a detour and travel the Dempster highway to Inuvik. The interesting part was that I was reading about events that took place in the book as we travelled to those very places such as Fort McPherson. We camped at sites or drove over several of the rivers and creeks mentioned in the story. Travelling through the territory as I was reading the story really brought the events and characters to life.

The trip up the Dempster Highway was one of the highlights of that summer’s road trip.
