I think I stopped hunting there in the 80's when the moose got restablished. What an awesome place it was growing up for deer. People came from all over, and the communities prospered. Instead we put moose on the island, not open to anyone but folks from Nova Scotia in a draw. The deer population got dessimated. It seems to me the moose was to only please the natives. Not one thing has been done there in years down there to turn the deer problem around. Sad. Now talk of addressing moose concerns in other parts the province, so lets do the same in other areas. What about deer concerns. One only has to look at the deer zones of Cape Breton to see how many years its gone unchanged to figure out there's a problem. Sorry but the moose took a lot away with little to no return. Have friends now for thirty years travel off the island to hunt. That just don't seem fair.Been hunting deer on the island with my family for about 14 years... between the three of us we got 3 deer in 14 years.... for example this season we have 4 different blinds with 8 cameras and 8 apple piles.... we haven't gotten 1 picture of a buck in 3 months I've been in the stand over 30 times so far this year and it's pretty disappointing 😕 been planning hunts with the wind using scent killer and doing alot of still hunting and it's mind boggling you can put that much time and effort into something you would hope it would almost pay off.....last year hunting on this island for sureee fool me once shame on you fool me 14 times well daum shame on me I guess?
We Moose hunted up there 3 years back. Went up into Highland Road from the Margaree valley area, a place (I thinked) near intervale? The fields in that area, prior to heading up the mountain had deer in them every day as we traveled up/down. However once up in the highland road area and its off roads none of us ever saw a Deer Track. In all honesty the Moose sign was also very limited..Quite a change from when i hunted that same zone back in 2006.. Sad state for sure, I remember all the talk decades ago about Deer Hunting in CB, that is where many folks travelled too. Days gone by for sure....Been hunting deer on the island with my family for about 14 years... between the three of us we got 3 deer in 14 years.... for example this season we have 4 different blinds with 8 cameras and 8 apple piles.... we haven't gotten 1 picture of a buck in 3 months I've been in the stand over 30 times so far this year and it's pretty disappointing 😕 been planning hunts with the wind using scent killer and doing alot of still hunting and it's mind boggling you can put that much time and effort into something you would hope it would almost pay off.....last year hunting on this island for sureee fool me once shame on you fool me 14 times well daum shame on me I guess?

Honestly the 1st nation don't waste their time with deer like they did years ago hereMaybe the non reported native harvest has something to do with the Cape numbers?
Grandfather that I hunt with before the year 2000 he has still hunted over 30 deer on this island and this year he quit deer hunting because he refuses to travel for a deer so using his experience of hunting on the island can almost guarantee I'm not doing a hole lot wrong there's just no deer here plain and simple the numbers are going down and down every year till watch eventually they'll be endangerd on capebreton.....just like the carabu I guess it was nice while it lasted there too worried about helping the moose that were not allowed to go nearHave you hunted elsewhere successfully? How do you know you're not doing something wrong? Considering that we have had no antlerless tags for a couple of decades (except a mere 75 this year) , our buck to doe ratio is quite imbalanced. For this reason, successfully filling a tag will be much harder.
Here is the bad news for you . It has actually got way better in the last 10 years no where near where it was in the 80's and 90's but much betterGrandfather that I hunt with before the year 2000 he has still hunted over 30 deer on this island and this year he quit deer hunting because he refuses to travel for a deer so using his experience of hunting on the island can almost guarantee I'm not doing a hole lot wrong there's just no deer here plain and simple the numbers are going down and down every year till watch eventually they'll be endangerd on capebreton.....just like the carabu I guess it was nice while it lasted there too worried about helping the moose that were not allowed to go near
Christ Ed put your mask on looks like you scared another new member awayThe herd is up exponentially on the island over the last few years. The problem is there are too many does and not enough bucks. The numbers will never rebound to pre 1990 levels but they are definitely up from a decade ago.
same in red islands but again nothing like the past but still three times what is wasMy family has seen a huge increase in the deer population in Richmond County. I have family who have even seen many deer on Isle Madame this year, including one that was hit by my dad, which was not normal for a long time.
That was not my intention. When I suggest maybe he's doing something wrong I mean probably not putting in enough time in the stand. With our buck numbers low, you literally have to spend the entire season in the woods to have consistent success. That's a time commitment few of us can make. I know I can't.Christ Ed put your mask on looks like you scared another new member awayI thought I was the only one they blamed for that
We all know thats a major contributor to itMaybe the non reported native harvest has something to do with the Cape numbers?
