Hello all Trappers,

I am searching for small beetles found on trapped beaver. These small insects are sometimes refered to as beaver fleas.

My father is an entomologist ( scientist that studies insects) at the university of Guelph in Ontario. He asked me if I could help him find and photograph these insects. Currently there is no live photo of this insect. The beaver beetle is a parasite that feeds on beaver skin, other then that not much is known about it. No live beaver beetles have ever been collected by scientists. So this would be a first for science.

Here is what this beetle looks like..... it is very small 2mm

If any of you trappers have seen these beetles and/or could help me get a couple live specimens my father would greatly appricate it. I am going to school in Halifax, I have a truck and can meet fellow trappers anywhere on the main land!

I am not a scientist ( just helping my father out) but my this is my fathers page. http://www.uoguelph.ca/debu/people.htm

Thanks for reading,

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate your help. If you guys happen to find some put them in baggie or pill bottle with some damp fur and stick them in the fridge. If anyone can get me some I'll gladly compensate your time with a case of beer or a box of shells.

Thanks!!!
