Well seeing as it's not opening tomorrow. Thought we could start a new thread of when everyone thinks Cabelas will have their Grand Opening.

I say end of June.

I think they messed this up totally for what ever the reason. Many now could not care less. It is odd that they have put nothing into advertising, hunting shows, even a banner or two on this site, nothing. More talk about CT stores getting out of firearms, more shootings, the government bill, etc, may have had some start to reconsider going forward with this store. Indeed very odd.

You guys reading way too deep into this

They could not care less about anything other than the change of direction the company is now taking under bass pro and this store being the very first hybrid of such in the world it has to be right and right takes time when they have never done one before

So yes they are going to take their time to make it exactly what they want since as someone said it maybe a jaw dropper or at least a show piece for their future hybrid stores

MY guess expect a lot more casual clothing like bass pro was a lot less ammo / firearms than an old cabelas

I heard recently that Cabela's employees have been seen working inside the store but other than that nothing seems to be going on.

As a point of note. I was in the Bedford Cdn Tire store last week and noted that all their firearms have been removed. I asked one of their employees and was told they had all been shipped to another store. Reason unknown.

They still have ammo but the prices are getting over the top. A green box, Remington Core Lokt 308 W was selling for $39.99. What is going on with the prices? I see no reason for ammo selling for such high prices. To my knowledge there is no shortage of ammo being produced and their is no big rush on to stock up like we went through several years ago.

You nailed it 3mac1- according to a few of the employees Johnny Morris himself is involved in the making the Dartmouth store something special.

The few times I was in the Bedford CT store, there have been no one looking for firearms nor ammunition. Compared to Greenwood CT or Chain Lake Dr. CT, the Bedford store was very quiet. Once, they had almost all firearms on sale for something like 15% off, so that was likely a sign they wanted to either wake up their market or discover it doesn't exist. But good to know anyway, I won't bother heading to there anymore.

308 Winch has been fairly expensive everywhere I've looked. I don't think it is a CT thing. I think it's just a market - they figure its for big game, not target shooting, so roughly one box a season or less. It is a low part of one's hunting costs when you think about it. The ammo makers have also gone into premium marketing and product. Cabelas now sells HSM Trophy Gold for $61 (on sale!)

Marketing says:

HSM teamed with Berger to create an exclusive line of rifle ammunition loaded with Berger hunting bullets, which were previously only available to handloaders. The VLD bullets penetrate between 2- and 3-inches before expanding and fragmenting, shedding 40% to 85% of their weight into surrounding tissue and organs to create a devastating wound cavity.

I think you will find ammo prices still have a way to go. Less stock and users in canada mean higher prices

This was posted on May 24th on nutz. I cannot find anything to prove his claims but it seems from other posts it is taking place for sure at some locations. If it is true and goes canada wide it will hurt us again and we can expect others to bump their prices up again

OK everyone, just got word from a contact who is a manager at Walmart. Head office has decided that Walmart Canada is no longer selling ammo. I was informed that all remaining ammo is 50 to 65% off. I went down to my local Walmart and could not believe my eyes;

Fed 270 $12
Fed 243 $12
Remington 30-06 for $19
Winchester 555 for $19
Remington Gold bulk 523 for $19
Remi core lock 7mm for $19
Fed 303 Brit for $19
Fed 308 150gain $19
Win slugs $3
100 round game loads 12 g $19
100 rd target 12 g $19
Win 223 $6
Extra...

I blew over $400 today just cause. No worries, I left enough ammo for a couple of friends that I called and anyone in my area.lol. Hope everyone finds what they are looking for!

I was just at the Walmart-Dartmouth Crossing and there were no sales on ammo and the shelves were 60% empty. Walmart-Cole Harbour does not sell ammo, anyone know which HRM Wallmarts have ammo on sale?. Also I was just at the Canadian Tire-Dartmouth Crossing and it not see any 25% sales on firearms nor a sign outside store. Thank you.

That is what I have seen members saying on nutz also. Some Walmarts it is on sale and some not

Be interesting to keep an eye on it however . I would not be shocked to see the ones here in NS being the last to get rid of it if it is true

This guy was from NB and this guy from BC and this guy from Ontario

Went to dieppe tonight, everything was marked down and cleaned out. Some challenger 12 gauge left for 15.00 a box.

I just cleaned out a bunch from the Squamish Walmart. I took almost all the 20g they had - including $3 boxes of slugs. Also cleaned out the Winchester 12g 7.5 and 8 shot. Picked up .410 as well, plus 7mm RM - for $19 a box it's cheaper than some try to sell their brass for on here. Also picked up various steel loads.

I got all the 12g slugs & buck shot they had. $2 for a 5 rnd box & $3 for the 15 rounders! 100 rnd bulk packs 12ga were $22. Got 4 of them as well

I spoke to staff at the gun counter in Bass Pro Moncton today and he said the new store is going to open in October, part of the reason for the delay he said is it will be a bigger store at 100000 sq ft.

The former Moncton store he said was 44000sq ft

Funny he didn't mention a year

Haha!!!!

As much as I'm disappointed that they couldn't stick to their timeframes they first said, I'm also quite happy to hear they are rebuilding before even opening. I was never a fan of the Moncton Cabelas due to the ridiculously small size they built. It was smaller than half the grocery and hardware stores here. When bass pro opened just down the road from it, with an aquarium, a boat showroom, impressive murals and such we hardly ever went to Cabelas anymore. Then when they built this one here I was dumbfounded that they would again build a tiny building like that.

So to hear that they are going to expand it already is nice to hear! I'm also hoping this will include an aquarium as my daughter loves watching the fish!
