I use the extruded polystyrene rigid foam insulation (the stuff you use under concrete floors) and stick 4 - 2'x2' pieces together with PL premium. When the glue dries, I attach a paper target using thumb tacks. It works perfectly for me and the arrow don't go all the way through. This way the vanes don't get damaged. My crossbow is a Barnett rated at 345 fps but if you have a higher velocity bow you may want to use another piece of rigid foam insulation. I sight in at 20 and 35 yards and the arrow don't pass through at either range. Its a crude target but its cheap and it works well.
