Never used that product, who sells it?
It’s a Birchwood Casey Product, I grabbed a bottle from Bass Pro cause it was close but most stores that have firearms related products should carry it. Some woodworking shops probably also have it as I know Lee Valley tools carry’s it. Goes on just like any other oil you’d use on wood.

Started attacking the metal parts, as I mentioned the colour case hardening that ‘was’ on the receiver had to be lost, you couldn’t really see it from how rough the metal had gotten. Sanded it all down as best I could until I got bare metal. I attempted to sand the barrel down but quickly realized it was no easy feat. After doing some reading online I decided to try myself a little science experiment. I wrapped the barrel in paper towel that I had soaked in white vinegar, let it sit for a couple hours and came back to discover an orange mess of oxidized blueing that wiped right off. Go figure. I’ll have to do it a couple of times to try and get all the bluing off but it worked quite well to my surprise.

Just my 2 cents and maybe our gunsmith that does bluing will chime in Vinegar works great as you say but IMHO has to be hit with dish soap and boiling water to flush out and neutralize the vinegar right after if not it will over a period of time, etch the metal and then there could be issues with the bluing process
Cheers

Oh yeah I made sure to sanitize it afterwards, I was shocked how well it works.

Does it kill grass as well as weeds? Suspect the answer is Yes but not sure.
Yes on any thing green
I found it doesn't do as well out side with out a few applications and there I mix it with a bit of dish soap and table salt and make sure no rain is coming for at least 3 days but it is as good as the new round up which is crap
In the greenhouses I spray straight and close everything up and the temps go to like 140 and the next day everything is brown.
I do spray it outside on the driveway since I don't want anything there that could hurt the dogs down the road. Not much out there any more good
Good read here on it

Sorry woodmaster for a side track

II agree good info, I will give it a try on my driveway this year.
Funny thing about grass, hard to grow in some places in the yard but no problem in the driveway😀

Cool. Did you use the common stuff or the industrial grade you can get at home hardware I use that one to kill weeds inside the greenhouses and it will IT is double strength and cheap
I just used the common stuff, spent some time last night with 600grit sandpaper going all over the metal again, I'm almost there!

Lot of work my friend but worth it in the end. take care
Common is 5 % acid the home hardware cleaning stuff is 10% and I buy 20% off amazon for spraying all the greenhouse benches but that is 50 bucks a gallon and the other less than 6.00 a gallon
The 20% is full suit cartridge mask and gloves turns the old rough juniper benches white but kills everything it touches from bacterial to bug eggs which one doesn't want in greenhouses

Well I attempted my first go at Cold-Bluing today. As I mentioned, the colour case hardening on the receiver was sanded off so I degreased and cleaned the bare metal multiple times until it was nice a clean. Heated up the metal with a hair dryer as some had recommended and simply followed the instructions on the Bluing. I’m using Birchwood Casey Perma Blue Paste. I’ve read that the paste gives a denser finish than the liquid blue and is a little more controllable when applying. Did 6 coats, 0000 steel wool between each. Might still need to do a few touch ups, but I’ll let it sit for 24hours and see. I have to say, I think it looks pretty good. Definitely not factory, but I’m still quite pleased with the results. I even did a test fit with the refinished stock.
