Yes sir we are real lucky to still have our old pal the stick man with us after reading this and the bad accident he was in not too long ago
One man is dead and another is injured after two off-road vehicle collisions Monday morning in Nova Scotia.
Police responded to the first crash on Highway 362 in Spa Springs, N.S., around 5:50 a.m.
After arriving on scene, officers learned an ATV was travelling south on the highway when it left the road and stopped in a field.
The driver and sole occupant, a 31-year-old New Minas man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
About an hour later, the RCMP responded to another off-road vehicle crash on a trail in New Tusket, N.S.
Officers say a side–by-side was traveling on a remote trail when it rolled and pinned the driver underneath.
The driver and sole occupant, a 65-year-old Shelburne man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and was airlifted to hospital by Lifeflight.
The investigation is ongoing.
Sad news here. The 31 year old lived three doors down from me. Leaves behind a wife, three kids, 2,5,7. Just terrible.Yes sir we are real lucky to still have our old pal the stick man with us after reading this and the bad accident he was in not too long ago
Wow real sorry to hear that I am sure brings you right back to your terrible experience One never gets over something like that and Like I said real glad you are still here with us We may not always agree but you are loved here my friendSad news here. Can almost guarantee that they accidents come from people using them inappropriately. Certain things are inherently more dangerous that others, like 3-wheelers were much more unstable than quads. But safer things often lead people to trust in the device and perform unsafe maneuvers and then they pay the costs. Look at the accidents on the highways. Very seldom are they NOT caused by excessive speed for the conditions or erratic/unsafe driving practices. With all of these accidents with side by sides, they'll soon ban those like they did the three wheelers. I would think they would be much safer than just the average four-wheeler. Are these deaths resulting from people not wearing seat belts?? Maybe they should come with a five-point harness. Maybe they already do ????
Agree, SxS have seatbelts and you are required to wear a helmet. Most machines are too powerful IMO, people drive them like they stole them...driving them as fast as they can on the trails. Trees, rocks, ruts hitting stuff at full speed is never a good outcome. Also a lot of people are inexperienced, a lot of these machines have high centre of gravity and can easily tip. It's really a combination of factors. Can almost guarantee that they accidents come from people using them inappropriately. From what I have seen and I could be wrong its atv's that seem to be the ones here. I learned something my day its when you stop from impact your seat belt saves you from being launched, unlike an atv or trail bike. After seeing what I seen I sold my trail bike. Alcohol, speed are two of the most common causes. The manufactures were in competition on who could make them the fastest, in doing so they scaled back on the metal to save weight, hence more speed but little protection. I remember when a 400cc atv was known as a brute of a machine. Today people laugh because they think it is under powered. My side by side had a govenor, if tampered with it would not run. Skidoos are just as bad, all engine, wide open. We live where much of our mountain trails are lined by rock. You cannot hurt that stuff, only yourself.Agree, SxS have seatbelts and you are required to wear a helmet. The worst is snowmobiles, those things fly like 200km/h+ some of those machines. Give me a tracked ATV any day that I can put around through the woods with in the snow. From what I have seen and I could be wrong its atv's that seem to be the ones here. A real shame for sure!Sad news here. The 31 year old lived three doors down from me. Leaves behind a wife, three kids, 2,5,7. Just terrible.
Lack of driver inexperience contributes to a lot of accidents, especially rollovers when it comes to ATV and snow machines. On groomed or maintained trails the cause of a collision is usually alcohol and or excessive speed. However, when travelling on a trappers trail or a wilderness trail with lots of climbing and angled trails a lack of speed or too much speed can get you into trouble. In some cases it’s the momentum that’s gets you to the top of the trail safety, or up over the embankment onto an old haul road. However you need to have experience judging the inclines and angles of attack your particular machine is capable of performing and at what speeds. Can almost guarantee that they accidents come from people using them inappropriately. Sad indeedCommon sense takes a back seat when no one is watching or keeping track ,
Condolences to the family , 3 kids are now without a Father for what ever the actual reason. Not a good thing at all .
I agree. I have a Honda Rubicon that I frequently drive back the Mersey. I never drive on weekends, too many nuts. I am certainly not a speed demon, the fastest I normally travel is 50 km/h, and that's on a straight part of the roads, my normal cruising speed is typically 30-45 km/h. I have a friend who stopped riding during ATV rally's, he would tell me the rally would start and 20 minutes in there would be groups stopping to have a beer and a puff, and this would carry on all day. Be safe, slow down and enjoy the ride, there is probably someone waiting for you at home. They don't need the bad news, there is enough of it in the world these days.Agree, SxS have seatbelts and you are required to wear a helmet. Those are the types that play stupid games and win stupid prizes , we have them flying down our street doing 80 km in 50 zone on a blind sharp turn , several have kissed the sidewalk here a few times and got back on and taken off again. Cops have even taken videos of our security cams to try catch these clowns before they kill themselves or someone else .Here's one for ya -
A couple weeks ago we were on the 104 just after dark coming home from NB. Coming up to a fair curve in the road we see an odd pattern of lights that appear to be coming toward us IN OUR LANE!!!!!!!! So I start slowing down and finally we can see that about half a dozen ATVs are coming up the WRONG SIDE!!! of the highway between the pavement and a guardrail! So they had actually been on the pavement when we first saw them! Holy shit!
And people would feel bad if I'd killed a bunch of them! They could have killed us - the bastards!!!!
And then to top that off, here comes an old three wheel Honda on the edge of the pavement in the left lane with no F'ing lights on what- so-F'ing-ever. These idiots must have a death wish!! God knows they did not value the lives of my wife and I.
So, call me hard hearted, whatever, I don't care. But its not much wonder some of these types get removed, or I should say, remove themselves, from the gene pool.
I'm not making any comment here about the fellow killed over the weekend. A tragedy. Really. Accidents happen to the best of us and I have no idea the situation there.
