Know nothing about it but from what I see they don't want it to work and expect protests

Why not have it during hunting season for starters so there would be less attention and no females bred
Why not give it to one of the wildlife groups to manage
They could make it a first time hunting experience for new bow and cross bow hunters especially the kids
Why not make it public that all the meat would be inspected and given to food banks at least a percentage of each deer taken
etc etc

Because NS doesn't give sweet F all about hunting. This hunt is only happening because a bunch of people fed deer and Truro banned hunting in their town limits and this is the direct result a nuisance problem that really has no solution besides some killing. Also we are such a cuck society that we have a bunch of karens complaining about poor bambi being killed yet they would be the first to scream their head off if the supply chain breaks down and they can't buy a chicken at sobeys or they hit a deer with their car going down the road.
THIS ^^^^^ member when insurance claims were sky rocketing down Lunenburg way a few years back ??

It has been made very public multiple times that all the meat would go to feed Nova Scotia and the hides are going to Millbrook.

They have not said at all though where the hunting sites are. Which on one hand is definitely smart as there are a lot of residents who would be there fighting the hunt. But it would be nice if they informed us the general areas. 20 deer removed is a drop in the bucket and for all we know they could once again be targeting the upper Victoria Park deer that Aren’t even the problem. 20 total, lol, they could get half the quota in my yard alone.

On a little side note, hunting actually is NOT banned in the town of truro limits.
Yeah you can hunt all you like .you just can not discharge a firearm in the town of Truro . If you read the by law bows crossbows and air gun are not covered by the by law .

IMO, this is actually a small victory for hunting here in NS. Its a first step (as stated in Dave's post #31) and hopefully is successful so it can be bigger next year.
Our tiny Wildlife Division would need backing from the Province, on this, and would have to sort out a bunch of liability issues for starters.
Kind of cool too that theyre using crossbows - a weapon that was not even legal in our Province, not that long ago.
Hopefully, these 4 hunters can recognize an antlerless buck and focus just on the does.

Well I just read in CTV article that their baited sites are “more than 800 m From any school or BUILT UP AREAS“ so just like their failed bow hunts the last few years this will likely not do squat to help with the actual problem. to be that far from the built up areas I would have to assume they are way out on the outskirts again. The herds of deer in downtown are not Venturing out There.

Kristy Kilpatrick said culls don’t work. “When you remove a large number of deer from any given area, what happens in a fairly short period of time is that more deer move in and the birthrate goes up,” she said. “You’re actually exacerbating the problem unless you do it year after year.”

I see there is already backlash to this from the general public. This needed to stay out of the news. What did the government expect ??? IMO … the amount of deer they are taking out with this cull will do absolutely nothing to the numbers. Take out 20 doe’s and they will reduce the number somewhat, but they will need to do this every year. The problem deer are not part of the cull. They need to shoot the deer in peoples backyards ... not on the outskirts of town.

We should do what a town in Ontario did, saw it in a hunting show, Canada in the rough??, they opened a special season for bow/xbow hunters had to shoot from elevated stands, limited draw entry, 15day season. They opened up the green belt and parks for the hunt and closed these areas to the public.
The episode i saw was the 3rd or 4th year doing it and had reduced the number of deer incidents about half. Plans were to reduce the number of tags from 50 to 25 the following year. It was a good show as they spoke with a town official and several residents.

This wasnt it but close

That would be great but NS doesn't care about hunting and the Karen's that would complain that they couldn't walk their dogs in the park would blow your mind if they ever even floated that idea.
