Winter Supper

Striper66, ask and ye shall receive!

On another thread 3Macs posted a pic of his goo lash as he calls it, with apparently way too many onions and garlic, lol. Striper66 suggested we have a winter supper topic so let’s do just that.

let’s try not to let this get hijacked too badly like every other thing we talk about. Let’s try keep it to “winter” meals I guess. Those suppers you make or ate growing up when the weather is miserable. Classic comfort food for a stormy winter.

I will be making a Dutch dish here soon, possibly supper tonight, called boerenkool. I will take some photos of it as I go.

It is brutal they say minus 8 here but man it feels a hell of a lot colder than that even with the wind chill factored in at minus 16
Venison Heart , cut thin then cooked very low with mushrooms , garlic snd spanish onions , seasoned to taste , with a Worcestershire sauce and a kick of Franks Hot sauce to add to bullion gravy , for a side of fresh cut home fries cooked in the air fryer seasoned with sea salt and pepper .

I always cook my smelt with the bone in. Easy peeling the meat off it..lol
I like to munch on the tails if they are crispy. I cook my pan trout the same way, bone in, tails on .

I LOVE scallops too but cant really afford the real ones these are just the small bay scallops not nearly as good but still yummy fried with some shrimp sweet potatoes cant beat them.
It will be either a Chilli night or split pea soup kind of night. Both made up yesterday. Not sure what's on the menu for tonight ... but it's a win - win for me.

I hear you. The odd time the fish store here will have the big fresh digby ones he calls them and I will treat the mrs and my self and buy 30 bucks worth which is not too many I may add but they are quite a treat when we do get them Like you other than that it is little frozen ones in chowder etc

A buddy of mine is a "big wig" at Clearwater. We always have a nice supply of scallops in the freezer. I don't mind the bay scallops. They are much smaller, but tasty little buggers.
