Winter Supper

Striper66, ask and ye shall receive!

On another thread 3Macs posted a pic of his goo lash as he calls it, with apparently way too many onions and garlic, lol. Striper66 suggested we have a winter supper topic so let’s do just that.

let’s try not to let this get hijacked too badly like every other thing we talk about. Let’s try keep it to “winter” meals I guess. Those suppers you make or ate growing up when the weather is miserable. Classic comfort food for a stormy winter.

I will be making a Dutch dish here soon, possibly supper tonight, called boerenkool. I will take some photos of it as I go.

I find the Crown a little too sweet for my taste. I know when I was rodeoing the Americans loved it and would always get it whenever they came up to Canada! They have been selling it down there for a number of years but the boys from down there always said it was hard to get and didn't seem to taste as good as ours.
I visited their plant in Gimli MB wayyyy back. Quite a sight to behold. Still have my old CR belt buckle I got from them on that visit. All my CR etched glasses are gone but one.

An update to this thread courtesy of superslickie making me hungry.
Bear rounds rubbed in oil and a nice mix of spices into sous vide bath @145 for 3.5 hrs then pat dry cover in sweet baby rays sugar n hickory some salt n peppa and slapped onto the grill at 500 degrees 30sec FLIP 30sec.DONE😋
U cant get that deep red color and texture in any other meat besides bear. And the flavour is what keeps me chasing them each fall.

Ribs look good. I would likely starve before I would eat the other "stuff". 😀

I wonder who was hungry enough to eat the first nut? Wouldn't have been me! 😊 Poor F'er must have been near dead from starvation!

I'm guessing it stems back from the old ranching days. Castrating calves all day, they were probably hungry. Apparently Prairie oysters are delicacy. I'm not about to find out anytime soon.

A tourist sat down in a restaurant in Spain later on the same day that a celebration was held which included a bull fight. As was the custom, a Matador kills the bull with a long sword thrust between the shoulder blades, causing lethal damage to the aorta or lungs. This particular restaurant had the privilege of serving up the testicles from the bullfight on that day. The tourist could not resist, and ordered up the prize delicacy. When his plate arrived, he said with some degree of disappointment, ”I thought the bull testicles would be much larger?” The waiter responded, “Oh, Yes Sir, but today, the Bull won!”
