I didnot think so but maybe they did and I missed it
Or is it a Only on the cape moment. We have a dude this morning all over face book with pics of his son and his son's deer that he shot and he is 14 years old and even states that
IMO he best get that off there. I am not on face book but the mrs showed and asked me this morning
I said I would double check in case I missed it but I cannot see it in the regs. I know it was talked about some years ago but did it ever happen

Pretty much every day there are illegal Pics posted all over those Hunting Groups. The biggest one for me is that it appears no one wears Hunter Orange anymore..

Eligibility for deer hunting licence
16 (1) To be eligible to apply for a deer hunting licence, a person must meet all of the following conditions:

(a) they must be 16 years old or older;

(b) they must be certified under the Hunter Education, Safety and Training Regulations to hunt with the weapon they will be hunting with;

(c) for a resident deer hunting licence, they must be a resident, as defined in the Act;

(d) for youth, they must meet the application requirements in subsection (2).

(2) A deer hunting licence for a youth must be

(a) acquired by the youth’s parent or guardian; and

(b) signed by both the applicant and their parent or guardian.

Supervision of youth hunters
17 While hunting, a youth must be under the immediate supervision of 1 of the following who is certified under the Hunter Education, Safety and Training Regulations to hunt with the weapon the youth is hunting with:

(a) the youth’s parent or guardian;

(b) another responsible person who is 18 years old or older.

Special youth season for hunting deer
18 (1) Despite Sections 10 and 11, a youth who holds a deer hunting licence may hunt under the licence in accordance with these regulations during the special open season for youth in subsection (2).

(2) The special youth open season for hunting deer is defined as the period from the 1st Friday in October after October 10 until the 2nd Saturday following.

The ones that i am seeing of late are all this week, last week taken with Rifle..There are lots of them, if you follow the Hunting groups on FB. I also know of a few, last year that received fines for it...

13 (1) No person shall take, hunt or kill wildlife or attempt to take, hunt or kill wildlife or accompany any person who is hunting unless that person wears a cap or hat and a shirt, vest or coat which shall be exposed to view in such a manner as to be plainly visible from all directions and the colour of which is solid hunter orange or camouflage orange.

It certainly contradicts what I posred from the same Regs regarding Mandatory Hunter Orange. I do know folks that have been charged as well. Perhaps a call to a CO might be better advised? There is a CO on this form as well, perhaps he can chime in..

Yes, unfortunately, contradictory - because Im an instructor (and get lots of questions at courses), I normally refer to the specific regs, under the Act, and do not use the summary very much. Learned this when we use to have CO's stop in at the courses (years back).

Hopefully, we can get some clarity here.

Yes you do. Once general deer season opens most of the exemptions for hunter orange do not apply. You can read the regulations by searching Nova Scotia hunter safety and training. It’s section 13. Basically until the start of general deer season if you are deer hunting (bow, muzzle, crossbow) or bear hunting you do not need orange in a blind or sitting stationary. If walking you require to wear it. Once general deer opens you require it all the time

Actually Kevin if you read the Clause (1) right above what Gary highlighted it kind of covers that off...I will place that here (i) during any period of the open season for hunting under a deer hunting stamp (archery and muzzleloader) that does not overlap with the open season for hunting under a deer hunting stamp (general) in accordance with the Deer Hunting Regulations made under the Act, Our Regs suck, no question. Perhaps Gary should now get in touch with the Provincial Trg Coord at DNR and get that ironed out.
